As a guide lenses fall into the following broad catagories:
Single vision lens
Single vision lenses give a wide field of view for either distance or reading.
Bifocal lenses
Bifocal lenses assist you with distance and reading.
Varilux lenses
Varilux lenses assist you with distance, reading and intermediate.
